The Oliver Fire Dept. has prizing that will be raffled off for every $10 donation (if you donate $100 you will be entered ten times) that is made to their Movember campaign at http://ca.movember.com/team/447853. There are some great prizes and more will be added until the end of the month, they include a Lake City Casino gift basket with Vee’s tickets, local restaurant gift certificates, winery gift basket, Lake Louise Ski Resort lift tickets and a BC Lions jersey. Fire Departments across Canada, including Oliver, have contributed almost $245 to Movember fundraising with over $23 million in Canada and over $69 million worldwide! Statistics show that, on average, men die at a younger age than women – the average life expectancy for men is four to five years less than women because men are dying at earlier ages. That said, despite trailing the women’s health movement, things are beginning to change, but much more progress needs to be made to close the gap between the state of men and women’s health and to complete the total picture of family health.  Established taboos and barriers relating to men’s health are gradually being broken down.
