Just to let you know –

Our 29th “Snowball” figure skating competition will be next weekend at the Oliver Arena. The South Okanagan Figure Skating Club is hosting the Event.  We will have 150 skaters coming from thru out the Okanagan Region, including Revelstoke and Golden. The club will have 7 of our own skaters participating.

This has been a annual event up till the last few years, where we had to share the event with the Winfield Club. This will be the last year we host this event, for it will be going up for  bid within the Region. Several Competitions in BC have been deleted over the  last few years, and this event is just one of them. If we want to host it again  we must bid on it. Competitions are a huge way of creating revenue for   clubs. There will be approx 18 officials: judges, data specialists, chief  referee who will be coming in to judge the programs.

We will have a panel of 6 judges plus data people on the judges stand that each skater will individually perform infront of, plus the audience. These skaters range from  about 6-18 years of age. There is a vendor also coming from Vernon to sell skating and dance-wear. Also a photographer that the region has hired to take  individual pics of each skater for parents to purchase.

These events are approved by Skate Canada. The last competition our club hosted was in 2009. Even though we only have a coach one day a week, we are still continuing on. The  test skaters practice on our ice Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays. With some of our skaters also traveling to Glengarry and Summerland for further coaching.
