The SOSS senior girls field hockey team was ‘quite the success’ last Friday in the priovincial tournament at the coast.
They placed third out of 12 teams in this year’s provincials. After talking to some of the team members about how well they played – most felt very confident going into the 2012 tournament. They knew that they were pretty good but had no idea what to expect.
The top six teams that placed in this tournament were all private schools except SOSS which definitely knocked down their confidence a bit but it made it that much more exciting when they beat them.
Since the local girls practice about three times a week for one and a half to two hours each session it takes a lot of work to get to the level of experience they needed to defeat so many teams last week.
Our field hockey girls also practice on a regular field. Almost all the other teams in the Provincials play on turf.
Turf is much faster to play on so having to play on a regular field would make it harder on our girls. This is what gives them that extra practice. They have to work harder than all those schools that play on turf.
The locals played very well in the provincial tournament and the team brought home a Bronze Medal and we are all very proud of them.
Congratulations SOSS, you played well.
