SOSS principal Cate Turner has been transferred to the Similkameen Elementary/Secondary School. She will be replaced January 1st, 2013 by Marcus Toneatto – who is the present principal at SESS in Keremeos.
When contacted late today, Mr. Toneatto said he is looking forward to the move. He says Oliver has great staff and SOSS has a good reputation. Moneatto says he lives in Penticton and the drive to Keremeos takes about as long as the one to Oliver. He starts in the new year.
“An announcement regarding the administrative transfers was made to both SOSS staff and SESS staff on September 28th. Both principals shared the information in school newsletters and/or at PAC meetings. We have not done a media announcement but will likely issue one before the Christmas break. It is common for school administrators to move around. This is healthy for individuals and the district. I know that both administrators are looking forward to their assignments in their new schools and the district will benefit from the change. The time of year is to allow better transition as both principals will be involved in the spring planning process for timetable structures, staffing, school directions and of course the opening of SOSS.” – Bev Young, School Superintendent, School District #53
