Greet Gill is a former SOSS Hornet, won the BC’s with coach Mo Basso a few years ago. He now plays for UBC Okanagan, which is in the CIS (Canadian Interuniversity Sport, basically Canada’s version of the NCAA – the same league I played in university).
He’s a very good player that I think deserves a little attention, since he’s the first Oliver player since me to step right into major college basketball and see major playing time and actually make an impact with his team.
I’m the assistant coach at UVic this year, while I do my masters. We played back to back games at home (Victoria) against UBCO last weekend and won both, but Greet played very well, was easily their best player on Saturday night.
On Friday night he hit that crazy shot over the backboard and that shot made the TSN Plays of the Week.
Pretty incredible- I’ve only seen that a few times in my life. In the clip you can see me on the UVic bench.
On a similar note, Ashley McGinnis is playing for the UVic Vikes women’s team, and Emily Jentsch is also on the UVic women’s roster, making a total of 3 players and one coach from Oliver last weekend. I thought that was pretty cool.
