The ‘Family Hub’ officially opened today at the Oliver Elementary School. 14 years in the making says Assistant Superintendent Jim Insley.
The Hub at OES will allow outside agencies to meet with parents and students inside the school rather than having to hunt for agencies in various offices and locations in the South Okanagan.
OES Principal Mike Safek says the agencies are now setting up a calendar of times they will be available at the school. School Board chair Marieze Tarr says: “We are excited about “the hub” at Oliver Elementary School. The hub is a “one stop shop” for families with various agencies like Public Health, Mental Wellness Centre, Supported Child and Development Program, Okanagan Boys and Girls Club, Ministry of Children and Families, South Okanagan Immigration and Community Services, speech therapy and others. About thirty people showed for the opening and cutting of the cake. Jim Insley paid tribute to Pat Buckland, former community facilitator – Community for Kids for helping to bring the idea into reality.
