More than 45 concerned citizens of the Boundary- Similkameen, rallied outside MLA John Slater’s office on Wednesday, October 24th, as part of the “Defend Our Coast” Day Of Action.Residents from the communities of Grand Forks, Osoyoos, Keremeos, Oliver and Kaleden were in attendance. The group was one of more than 60 that took place across B.C. in a province-wide protest to show their growing opposition to the risks posed by tar sands, pipelines and tankers. The diverse crowd represented a cross section of age groups who were united in their expression of concern regarding the unsustainable expansion in the tar sands, the building of additional and larger pipelines as a result of that expansion and the exporting of raw bitumen to China. The rally gave locals an opportunity to express their concerns and to convey those concerns to our local MLA John Slater who was in attendance.
