1. Oliver-Osoyoos Search and Rescue has a license to occupy a portion of the airport (north east corner) for the storage of vehicles and equipment. The group has asked Town Council for a grant in aid and a lease for the land. OOSAR wants to build a permanent structure but doesn’t have the money but has an old modular office that has been given to them. Town Council urged them to establish details of a lease on the property and then come back to finalize servicing issues for power, water, sewer etc.
2. Owners of Green Acres Manufactured Home Park appeared before council on a number of issues including a series of roadblocks caused by an old Bylaw for Mobile Homes enacted in 1978. The owner, Protea Holdings, agreed that the new set of additional lots would not go ahead until spring so that allows the Town to replace the old bylaw and grant permission for the requested variances. After buying an adjacent residential lot, the owners want to install 5 more home pads that have to conform to local bylaws and regulations.
3. Judy Nicholas appeared before council requesting further action by Town Council on the subject of Smart Meters. Council agreed to amend a motion made last January requesting a moratorium on installation of such meters. Council will write to the BC Utilities Commission and ask that a request from Fortis for the new meters be denied. The Utilities Commission meets in Osoyoos on November 7th at which time an application from Fortis will be presented and the public allowed comment. Oliver council stated that new meters would cost more money for consumers and that is the reason for the letter.
