Oliver-Osoyoos Search and Rescue will approach Town Council on Monday asking for a grant-in-aid/financial assistance on a number of options for a new facility that could cost close to a half million dollars on the north-east corner of the airport.
In a letter to council, Robert Selsing, Chair of the Land and Building Commitee says the cost of building a new structure similar to the Air Cadet Hangar (but smaller) “are beyond our budget”
Oliver-Osoyoos Search and Rescue presently operates out of the Community Services Building at the corner of Fairview Rd. and Kootenay Street.
Selsing, in his letter asks for a number of things to aid the organization in its plans for the future.
1. A variance to allow a modular building as a temporary structure
2. A change in zoning to allow a modular structure
3. A building permit
4. Help with infrastructure with a sewer extension costing $42000
He says “we have an offer of a building that could enable OOSAR to have a temporary building in the near future.” A small office building in Penticton has been offered, free of charge but it does need work.
Selsing says one of the limitations the organization has is gaming grants with the organization only allowed to request $20,000 per year for minor capital grants. The first of such requests for electrical service is pending with the Gaming Branch.
