Alex Atamanenko relaxes at an Oliver residence prior to a couple of meetings downtown.
Our MP (Southern Interior) was asked to comment on a number of issues:
1. Fish Farm effluent issue: “I want to support in any way possible the concerns that local government has in connection with this issue that I have read about in the local media.” …. “I know that Stu Wells, as chair of the Okanagan Basin Water Board is very concerned and I shall be speaking to him shortly and support all local government in their efforts to maintain the quality of river and lake water”
2. National Park: “I think the process was flawed and Parks Canada seems to admit to that”…”I think a National Park would be a good idea to help preserve sensitive areas in the South Okanagan – but a better job must be done to listen to First Nations people and the ranching community”… “I also think that the use of the area for Helicopter Training is a must.”
3. Keeping the community informed: “I have scheduled three MP Forums for this area in November. In Keremeos, November 13, Princeton the next day, and Osoyoos on Thursday November 15.”……”Our last MP Forum was in Oliver – but that was some time ago – so I hope all local politicians from Oliver and Osoyoos can join us on that day to review the common issues of the area.”
