Mayor Dan Ashton wins Liberal nomination race in Penticton Saturday. Pictured is Summerland Mayor Janice Perrino embracing the winner. Other hopefuls, businessman Mark Ziebarth (left) and Former School Board Chair Connie Denesiuk hear the news after a full day of voting at the Penticton Convention Centre.
No official voting results given but one insider in the counting room said there were a lot of spoiled ballots because of the the preferential voting system but that there was no contest with Ashton the clear winner.
Ashton is also the Chair of the Regional District. It is expected he will not stand aside until the election writ is dropped next spring.
Some would contend that Penticton will be looking for a new mayor soon.
The NDP have not selected a candidate yet. Ashton told the crowd assembled – “our job is to keep the NDP from being elected”.
