Hospital Visiting
When I went in and visited my neighbour who was a patient in the South Okanagan General hospital here in Oliver I had some trouble finding a chair to sit in during the visit. It seems that most people who visit patients being looked after in the Oliver hospital have the same difficulty that I had because of the shortage of chairs to sit in. Not having a chair to sit in when you get older and infirm means that you can’t spend too much time visiting if standing for lengthy periods is a problem. Not being able to spend much time with a “loved on” because there is nowhere to sit is creating some bad feelings.
Apparently, the shortage of room in our double-bunked hospital rooms from the point of view of nursing care is one of the reasons for the lack of chairs; in other words, the chairs create a problem because of the lack of space.
Perhaps it would help if group of individuals or a volunteer organization could look after the putting out of chairs and the collection of chairs just before visiting time and at the end of visiting time.
What do you think?
Is this something worth publishing with a view to fixing an ongoing problem?
