On October 12, 2012 the Oliver Detachment RCMP received a report of a suspicious occurrence that occurred on October 11, 2012 at approximately 3:15 PM. The report represented that a 12 year old male was walking home from school and was in the area of the Nk’Mip Pre-School when a male described by the 12 year old as a: middle aged Caucasian male with light brown hair and bushy eyebrows, driving an older model grey truck with a grey canopy approached him and asked him if he wanted a ride. The youth declined and ran from the point of contact and was not pursued.
On October 13, 2012 at approximately 11:00 AM the Oliver RCMP received a report that two young females, were walking their dog in the area of the Osoyoos Indian Band Office when they were approached by a heavyset male with a beard and light colored hair, driving a grey Ford F350 with a white canopy. The male was holding a small dog at the time of the contact and, asked the two female youth if they wanted to see his dog. The two youth declined and left the area. The male did not pursue the girls and subsequently left the Nk’Mip Gas and Convenience Store. Video surveillance of the vehicle has been obtained.
Although the two above noted situations are similar they may not necessarily be related. The RCMP however take complaints of this nature very seriously and will be investigating both as suspicious. Regardless of the intent of the male driver in either file, the public is asked to continue to be vigilant and ensure that their children are aware of ‘Stranger Danger’ protocols.In the event that a member of our Community was the person who contacted the young person(s) in either file please contact the Oliver RCMP to provide some insight with regard to the contact.
