The Desert Valley Hospice Society is proud to announce the receipt of a grant in the amount of $1,000 from the 17th Annual Fest-of-Ale held earlier this year in Penticton. The awarding of $35,000 in grants to various community charities was made at the Cannery Brewing Company on October 2nd at the 2012 Fest-of-Ale Charity Disbursement event. Dr. David Shaw attended on behalf of the Society to accept the cheque. Desert Valley Hospice had applied for the grant so that it could offer educational opportunities for volunteers who will be trained in the provision of services in the area of palliative and end-of-life care in Oliver and Osoyoos. The first of these education workshops was recently completed at Mariposa Gardens in Osoyoos and a second one will be held on October 17th for the new “Tuck In” program. Potential volunteers interested in participating are encouraged to contact Kimberley Hutton, Volunteer Coordinator at SO General Hospital for further information.
