Van Aller accepts Fortis award on behalf of School District

Mitch Van Aller – Director of Facilities holds award presented to School District #53 and himself for Conservation Excellence.

The award presented Tuesday in Kelowna was made by FortisBC for the total savings of 100 thousand kWhours of power inside the design of the new SOSS building. Van Aller says that equates to the power of 7 homes. He says the district installed a number of energy efficient features including T5 and T8 lighting, daylight (occupancy) sensors. “There are no light switches” says Van Aller.

A geothermal system heats and cools the entire school as well as the adjacent Oliver Elementary School. There is a heat pump in every classroom – a cadillac of systems.
