Just some info for the public on the latest telephone fraud brought to my attention. Mom received a call from a young man sounding like her grandson. The young man said he was in trouble (jail actually) and had to hang up but his lawyer would call her back. The lawyer then called her from a “blocked” number.
The supposed lawyer then told her that her grandson had been involved in an accident and needed to be bailed out of jail. Mom was very upset but remained smart and asked him why he was not calling his parents, he replied that her grandson (used full given names as well) was too embarrassed and wanted her help.
Mom said well too bad, in our family we do things differently and she would call his parents, end of phone call.
Mom knew deep down this was crap as we had just celebrated thanksgiving and she knew where her grandsons, all of them actually were however it still was upsetting. I thought you may like to know about this so you could warn others, especially our seniors to protect them.
