On 2012-10-03 members of the Oliver RCMP Detachment attended to a residence located in the 38000 Block of 71st Street, Oliver, BC as a result of a report of a possible impaired driver. On arrival at the location uniformed members discovered the unoccupied and insecure suspect vehicle. Observed in the vehicle were two long barreled rifles and a large quantity of ammunition. Further investigation resulted in contact with the registered owner of the vehicle and subsequent seizure of two more improperly secured rifles, one of which was loaded and had been modified. Weapons charges are being sought against a 61 year old Oliver resident.
On 2012-10-03 members of the Regional General Investigation Section (Oliver), supported by plainclothes members working out of the Penticton RCMP Detachment and uniformed members (Oliver) executed a Controlled Drugs and Substances Act Search Warrant at a rural residence in the 5000 Block of Sumac Street, Oliver, BC. As a result of this search approximately 5 kilograms of dried and packaged marihuana, approximately 5 kilograms of harvested marihuana bud (not yet packaged and dried) and 40 mature plants were seized. Aside from the marihuana, three long barreled rifles were also seized. Charges of Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking, Cultivation, and Unsafe Storage of a Firearm are being sought against two adult male Oliver residents. Considering that this investigation is ongoing, other charges may be forthcoming once Federal Crown Counsel and other subject matter experts are consulted.
