On September 17, 2012 at 13:36 hours an Oliver resident living in the 32000 Block of Tin Horne Creek Road reported a Hit and Run collision. The suspect vehicle likely sustained damage to the front bumper and front tire on the passenger side as evidenced by a bumper that was deposited at the scene. Further the suspect vehicle is likely a dark color older model Chev / GMC crew cab. Support from the public with information regarding this incident are asked to contact the Oliver Detachment of the RCMP, reference file # 2104 2012-5124.
On September 19, 2012 a local business owner reported that their business, located in the 6000 block of Main Street was broken into overnight. The thief entered the business by forcing the front door and subsequently stole cash from the cash register. A possible suspect observed running from the area is described as a 6’1″ thin Caucasian male, in his early 20’s with blond hair and a light colored shirt. Any public information should reference Oliver Detachment file # 2104 2012-5156 either directly or through Crime Stoppers.
On September 20, 2012 Oliver RCMP received a report of fraudulent cheques from an Oliver financial institution. Investigation confirmed that an Oliver resident had attempted to process $16,000 in cheques on behalf of a male subject who had taken advantage of her naivety. Oliver residents are reminded that criminals are always looking for a target and, where cheque fraud is concerned that target is generally a member of one of our vulnerable sectors. Guardians or friends of those members of our community should continue to be vigilant where those vulnerable individuals are concerned. Suspicious incidents should be reported to the local RCMP or your Financial Institution in order to obtain perspective.
On September 21, 2012 Oliver RCMP and Regional GIS (plain clothes) responded to a complaint of Mischief and Cause Disturbance in the area of 472 Veterans Avenue. Police intervention supported by the public resulted in the subsequent arrest of a male subject who is well known to police. This subject has been released via a Bail Hearing process with conditions, one of which is to not be in Oliver BC. Quick response by members working out of the Oliver Detachment was greatly assisted by the Public who continuously updated patrolling members as to the location of the suspect who was attempting to avoid arrest. These events are constant reminders of the level of support that the police have in this Community.
During this reporting period the Oliver Detachment has received a few complaints of locals setting off fireworks on their property, mostly in the rural area. The Public should be aware of the fact that we are still experiencing very dry conditions and that local fire ratings are High.
