I met Jagmel Singh at the offices of the South Okanagan Immigrant Community Services on Main Street in Oliver. Jagmel is a bit of fixture there as he is at various spots in the community as he helps out being an ambassador/a-go-between.
He is often the point man when members of the East Indian community need help communicating with staff at the hospital and at other government agencies.
Jagmel was born in India in 1930. At 16 he entered the Indian Army Signal Corp and was part of their military under British rule. He is married, has four daughters – two still in India – one in Kamloops and one in Oliver.
Jagmel is proud of his heritage, of his Sikh religion and proud of being a Canadian.
Jagmel Singh is the latest member to be accepted into Branch 97 Royal Canadian Legion. Congratulations Jagmel.
