A weekend food drive – door to door has collected 4000 pounds of supplies for the Oliver Food Bank. Jim Ouellette says Oliver is a giving town and the amount donated has increased 1000 pounds over the level of last year.
This past Saturday the BC Thanksgiving Food Drive (BCTFD) collected an estimated 352,588 pounds of food for 50 local food banks throughout the province.
In Oliver, the BCTFD event included more than 36 volunteers providing over 144 volunteer hours of service to the community. They were able to visit some 1,635 homes, and collected more than 4,410 pounds of non-perishable food for the Oliver Food Bank.
After pick-up, donations were sorted and weighed. “Thanks for all of your support for the amazing amount of food that the Oliver community donated to its food bank!” comments Jordan Noftle, local organizer. The local BCTFD event in Oliver was sponsored by two organizations: Oliver SuperValu & The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
