Last night at the volunteer’s appreciation dinner in Penticton, the Rotary Club of Oliver was awarded the Founder’s cup and plaque for “growing” the Penticton Ironman. The club was cited for its 30 year commitment to the event with its manning the bike aid station in Oliver. “You have been there from the beginning and have helped grow this event from the 23 original competitors in 1982 to the over 2600 in this final year of the Ironman Canada event”, were the words of Judy Sentes. Captain of the aid station, Ron Worth accepted the cup and plaque, while members in attendance were applauded when they took to the stage. This is the last year of the Subaru Ironman event. New sponsorship will see the event continue next year.
