On August 21st, 2012, at 05:03AM, the Oliver RCMP responded to a theft in progress at the Centennial Campground, located in Oliver, BC. A camper had located a male rummaging through their personal effects which were stored outside of their trailer. When confronting the male, he identified himself to the complainant as a security guard but, given that the male was not in any type of a uniform, could not present any identification, and was highly intoxicated, the complainant became suspicious and contacted police. Upon attendance, a 25 year old male was taken into custody by police. While taking the first male into custody, a second male was identified by witnesses as being an accomplice to the theft. After a lengthy foot pursuit, dropping stolen items as he ran, a 17 year old male was ultimately taken into custody. On August 23rd, the 25 year old male, from Beaverdell, B.C., appeared in Penticton Court and pleaded guilty to charges of “Obstruction” and “Possession of Property Obtained by Crime” receiving 2 days jail time to be served concurrent on each count. The 17 year old Oliver male, was subsequently released on an undertaking to appear in Penticton Court and faces charges of “Assault Police Officer,” “Obstruct Police Officer,” “Possession of a Weapons Dangerous to the Public,” and “Possession of Property Obtained by Crime.” The matter is still before the courts. Neither male can be identified as per the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
On August 25th, 2012, at 3:38PM, Oliver RCMP received a report of a sexual assault that occurred approximately three hours prior in the area of Church St., in Oliver, BC. A 36 year old female, reported that she was walking up Church St., in Oliver and could here someone walking behind her, getting closer. As she approached Okanagan St., a male touched her buttocks and stated, “Lets go have sex”. The woman turned around, pulling out her cell phone and attempting to get a photo of the male. The woman then followed the male for approximately a block, eventually getting a photo of the male as he departed on foot. The suspect was described as an East Indian male, in his mid 20’s to early 30’s, approximately 6’1″ tall, with a medium build, short clean cut medium brown hair, and the beginnings of a goatee. He was wearing a white t-shirt, red basketball shorts & flip flop sandals. The matter is still under investigation and police are requesting the public’s assistance in identifying the suspect male. Although it is fortunate that the female victim in this case was not injured, for safety reasons, police do not recommend that victims in these types of incidents attempt to pursue their assailants.
On August 26th, 2012 at 5:27AM, the Oliver RCMP responded to a complaint of a stolen vehicle that had occurred sometime overnight. The complainant reported that their white 1995 Ford F250 pickup was parked overnight on the shoulder of Earle Cres., in Oliver, BC. When the complainant awoke the following morning, the truck, along with some power tools stored within were nowhere to be found. Extensive patrols failed to locate the missing vehicle. The matter is still under investigation and anyone with any information regarding this theft is asked to contact the Oliver RCMP or Crimestoppers.
On August 26th, 2012, at 11:43AM, Oliver RCMP received a report of a theft from vehicle that had occurred sometime in the past hour. The complainant, who had just completed a family shopping trip, parked their red 2005 Ford F150 pick-up in the parking lot of the Oliver Arena and attended the baseball field to watch a game in progress. While watching the game, thieves entered their vehicle, removing several suitcases and bags containing adult and children’s clothing and footwear (many of which had just been purchased), as well as an unknown quantity of jewelry and some prescription medication belonging to the vehicle’s owner. The matter is still under investigation and anyone with any information regarding this theft is asked to contact the Oliver RCMP or Crimestoppers.
