November 22, 1949 – August 19, 2012
Pedro passed peacefully surrounded by family after his battle with cancer at the age of 62 years. Pedro was born in Ourondo, Portugal, schooled in France and moved to Canada in 1968 where he met the love of his life, his wife Irma. Pedro was a machinist by trade yet in 1970 after marrying he and his wife bought their first orchard as he began his life as a farmer. He Enjoyed life and lived fully doing the many things he loved, fishing, hunting, farming and gardening. He particularly enjoyed his travels to Arizona where he would spend quality time with his family and friends. Predeceased by his father Josè Pereira Barata and mother Maria de Jesus Carvalho and survived by his loving wife Irma; brother Joe of Penticton; sisters Amelia, Isabelle and Nicole, and his children: Isabelle and Brian; his son-in-law Ken and grand children Adam, Christian, Tanner, Haley, Hannah and a host of cousins, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and friends. Pedro enjoyed his affiliation with the Elks Club and shared many visits to the club with family and friends. He gave back to the farming community serving on the executive committee with B.C. Tree Fruits. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the B.C. cancer society. Prayers were recited at 7:00 P.M. Tuesday August 21, 2012 at Christ the King Catholic Church. A funeral mass was celebrated by Br. Gerry Craig at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday August 22, 2012 at Christ the King Catholic Church.
