Osoyoos RCMP General Media Release 2012-08-13
Over the last week the Osoyoos RCMP Officers have kept busy with 99 new investigations. Additional foot patrols at Gyro and Lions Beach and Town Parks led to 12 Liquor Act Tickets / Warnings as well as arrests of intoxicated unruly people.
On August 6th, Police received a report that a Macbook pro and other items had been stolen from a vehicle that had parked on Cottonwood Drive while the owner was at the beach.
On August 7th, at about 11:30 pm, a group of youths broke a number of glass bottles at the raft moored in the water in front of the Poplars Motel. Broken glass was strewn on the beach and in the water. A group of local youth are believed responsible.
On August 8th, an employee from Yore Movie Store brought a $100.00 counterfeit bill to the Police office. On August 4th a male in his mid twenties, about 5’ 7” tall, with short blonde hair and freckles came into the store wanting to buy an iced tea. The male gave the $100 bill to the clerk who noticed the bill was fake. When the clerk told the male the bill wasn’t real he ran from the store. The serial number of the bill is BKJ0173532 and there have been multiple incidents throughout the Okanagan with this particular counterfeit bill being passed.
August 9th, after midnight a Police officer on patrol conducted a traffic stop of a white 2006 Dodge Grand Caravan. The vehicle had been speeding 97km/h in a 50km/h speed zone. Police determined the van had been stolen from Vancouver and the 2 male occupants were arrested for Possession of Stolen Property. The vehicle was towed and later retrieved by the Group home from where it was stolen. As a result of this investigation a 19 year old male and a 17 year old male both from Vancouver face criminal charges. As well the 17 year old who was a new driver at the time of this incident was charged with 6 Motor Vehicle Driving infractions totaling $713.00 in fines and 2 Liquor Act infractions totaling $339.00 in fines.
On August 9th, RCMP attended at the NK’MIP campground after a 19 year old male had been found hiding in a tent with 4 teenage girls aged 13-15 years. The 19 year old was pulled out of the tent by one of the girls father and held until the Police arrived. The male was intoxicated and had been speaking to the girls earlier. The 19 year old male from Pender Island was arrested for Breaching the Peace and lodged in jail until sober. The Campground staff ejected the male and his group from the campground the next day.
On August 10th, a vehicle with 4 males from Vancouver made a wrong turn as they were heading to the Shambhala Festival in Salmo. They ended up at the Osoyoos Port of Entry where a subsequent search of their vehicle located a large amount of drugs hidden. US Customs and Border Protection seized Marihuana, mushrooms (Psilocybin), Dilaudid, Heroin, and yet to be identified white powder and brown liquid. The subjects were arrested and face criminal prosecution in the United States.
On August 11th, at noon, Police received a report that over night someone had attempted to steal a white/orange Mastercraft X30 boat by punching in the ignition. The boat had been moored at the Osoyoos Marina. Although the boat was not stolen 2 surf boards and a life jacket were taken.
On August 11th, at 6:11 am, Police received a report that a red 2010 Mastercraft X2 boat had been stolen from a dock on Bayview Crescent sometime over night. The boat owner had the keys but there were a number of items in the boat including wakeboards, life jackets, and IPods. There were no witnesses to the boat theft.
On August 11th, at 1am, Police received another report that the ignition was damaged on black 2011 Bayliner boat on Osoyoos Lake in an attempt to steal the boat.
On August 12th, at approximately 3:09 am, a Police officer on patrol observed a vehicle driving onMain Streetwith no lights on. Police stopped the vehicle and driver was found to have been drinking and driving. The investigation led to a 27 year old female fromCalgaryreceiving a driving prohibition and her rental car was impounded.
On August 12th, a Police Officer on patrol stopped a Lincoln Navigator for a traffic violation. The driver stated he was coming from the Shambhala Festival in Salmo, BC. The driver had been drinking and driving and the resulting investigation led to the 33 year old male fromVancouverreceiving a driving prohibition and his vehicle was impounded.
Police would like to remind everyone to remove valuables from vehicles and boats and be watchful of people acting suspiciously around these areas.
