OLIVER, B.C. – The Air Cadet Squadron in Oliver has a proud history of delivering an exceptional program. Air Cadets are youth between the ages of 12-18 who are looking for opportunity to develop their self confidence, teamwork skills and leadership abilities. During their time as a cadet, they are exposed to many opportunities, including flying training, sports, range and biathlon, band, effective speaking, athletics and much more! Officers of the Cadet Instructors Cadre (CIC) are members of the Canadian Forces Reserve whose primary duty is the supervision, administration and training of teenaged youth of the Royal Canadian Air Cadets. Opportunities exist for full time summer employment at any of the Cadet Summer Training Centres throughoutCanada.
In Oliver, there is a great deal of community support and pride for the Air Cadets. We are looking to build on this solid foundation and provide more opportunity for interested adults to become involved. By joining the CIC, these instructors will earn wages toward delivering the program on the regular meeting nights (Wednesdays, between 6:30pm-9:30pm at the Air Cadet Hangar). The cadets meet from September to June. In addition to the wages that the adults earn during the regular training year, there are also full time employment opportunities in the summer.
Air Cadets can also receive their Glider Pilot’s License and Power Pilot’s License by earning a scholarship. There are a number of opportunities to familiarization fly throughout the year as well as receive ground school instruction. Air Cadets also have travel opportunities within BC,Canadaand internationally on various courses and scholarships. The incredible part of program is that all scholarships and summer training are offered at no cost to the cadets. Uniforms are also provided for free!
In addition to the above activities, Air Cadets also participate in range, drill, flight simulator experience, field training exercises, first aid, biathlon, effective speaking and band. Adult instructors have the opportunity to receive specialist training in those areas as well.
