I was driving on Sumac Road this afternoon and was shocked to see two young (well under twelve year old) boys riding 4-wheeled ATVs in the MIDDLE of the road SIDE BY SIDE! One of them actually passed a car doing the speed limit!
These kids were speeding at about 80km an hour (this area has a speed limit of 50km an hour because of slow moving farm vehicles and I see cars doing 70-90km on it every single day.)
The road is narrow and winding and I feel ANYONE speeding along this road is just an accident waiting to happen especially now with all the cars, orchard golf carts, farm vehicles and large trucks that are picking up produce from farmers on this road.
Maybe parents out there could check if their kids are responsible enough to drive these machines in the first place?
Just because the kids have a helmet on doesn’t make it OK to speed and drive at a crazy speed and weave in the traffic like that.
I believe the BC law states that the ATVs driven on common roads have to be insured for ‘on the road’ use and in that case the driver has to have a drivers license.
Just like the sergeant used to say on Hill Street Blues “Hey, let’s be careful out there!”
