Two people have drowned, and a third is missing for 24 hours, after being swept over a waterfall (Cascade Falls near Trestle Bridge) on the Kettle River near Grand Forks on Saturday.
Police said there was a group of about 13 people tubing on the Kettle River, and witnesses told them part of the group were swept up in the current.
Witnesses were able to pull one man from the water below the falls, but immediate efforts to revive him were unsuccessful. He has been identified as a 74-year-old resident of Christina Lake. The body of the man’s 71-year-old wife was also found by search and rescue personnel.
The third person who is still missing has been identified as a 50-year-old Scottish man.
The recovery effort, and search for the missing man resumed this morning.
The RCMP said they are providing support to the affected families, and engaging the assistance of the Scottish Embassy and Consulate in notifying family members overseas.
No names are being released at this time.
The RCMP and Grand Forks Search and Rescue responded to the call, along with BC Ambulance.
