Decisions made by Oliver Town Council – Monday July 23, 2011
1. Summer recess in effect until August 27th when next council meeting is scheduled
2. Airport – Council gave permission to Back2Earth Skydiving (Andy Morris) to install a man gate with private keypad at the owners cost and Council has agreed with a recommendation from Airport Advisory Committee to allow for the Terms of Reference to be adjusted to include the appointment of the local Flying Club President/designate as a full voting member of the committee. Council will also apply for a government grant for the paving of an apron to connect General Aviation Hangars and Helicopter buildings to the north end of the main air strip.
3. A number of revisions given to the new Cemetery Bylaw and a third reading – again.
4. Final reading and approval given to rezoning of land near Sunnybank allowing for a larger manufactured home park (Protea Properties).
5. Strategic Priorities were set for the next 4 to 5 months to be revisited in late October.
6. A company with a development on the east side of Osoyoos Lake asked the Town of Oliver to handle its sewer output until a new plant is built there in the future. The request from Osoyoos Cottages Development was turned down. It was not known if other government jurisdications ( Town of Osoyoos, RDOS or OIB) had been asked the same question.
7. The Martinho Family at 4644 Black Sage Road requested relief for the 2011 irrigation charges and penalties due to the mistaken reclassification of their property from farm status to residential. This occured recently when the property was in transititon from an orchard to a vineyard. The relief was granted by the water purveyor – Town of Oliver.
