Over the last week the Osoyoos RCMP officers have been kept very busy with 113 investigations. There continue to be numerous Public Disorder complaints including public drunkenness, drinking in public, and large unruly gatherings leading to noise complaints. In addition to the Police arresting subjects who are disorderly and unable to care for themselves due to being intoxicated and issuing Violation Tickets under the authority of the Liquor Act, over the last several weeks the RCMP has been working closely with the Town of Osoyoos to obtain additional Bylaw Authority to issue Temporary Park Expulsion Letters. The expulsion letters temporarily ban violators from the Town’s Parks and Beaches. Common Bylaw violations which can lead to expulsion from the Osoyoos Parks and Beaches include Liquor in the Park, Creating a Nuisance, Damaging Park Property, in Parks after hours, and Interfering with Workers or Enforcement Officers. Failing to Comply with a Bylaw Expulsion can lead to fines between $200.00 to $10000.00 plus the costs of the court prosecution. The Osoyoos RCMP want all visitors to join our local citizens in enjoying the wonderful Town Beaches and Parks but for those who wish to disrespect these places and interfere with everyone’s enjoyment the consequences may prove to be costly.
