Members of the Willowbrook Girls’ Pony Club were treated to a rare opportunity Thursday when area residents Rita and Egon Jensen arrived at the outdoor riding arena in a 1921 Studebaker horse drawn wagon pulled by Calvin and Hobbes, a team of Norwegian Fjords.
The girls were given a short history of draft horses and listened attentively while Egon explained the various parts of the harness, right from the brow band to the whipple tree. The highlight of the evening came when each member took a turn driving the team around the arena.
The pony camp is run by a neighbour who asked if we would be willing to give the membership an introduction to driving horses.
