South East District Marine Unit was on the water and issued approximately thirty federal violation notice warnings under the Canada Shipping Act. Boaters need to know that laws change and non-compliance can result in hefty fines. The most current information can be found online at www.boatinsafety.gc.ca. On June 20th and June 23rd the Sierra Self Storage reported that on both dates the Uhaul vehicles on the lot had fuel siphoned from their tanks. If anyone has information on these thefts please contact the Osoyoos RCMP.
On June 25th, 2012 a rock had been thrown through a window at the Osoyoos town hall building. If anyone has information on this mischief please contact the Osoyoos RCMP.
On June 28th, 2012, Osoyoos RCMP attended to Lobelia Drive. A female had forgot to put her car in park when she went to get the mail. The vehicle started rolling and subsequently hit the female before it ended up in some bushes across the street. BC ambulance attended and transported the female to the Oliver hospital for assessment where she was later released.
On June 29, 2012, Osoyoos RCMP attended to a disturbance at a local residence. A male was alleged to have assaulted the occupants of the residence. He then fled the scene. Massimo DICICCO was located and arrested for assault with a weapon, possession of a prohibited weapon, possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose, unlawfully in a dwelling house, mischief and utter threats. DICICCO was held and released on conditions by a Judge to appear in Penticton provincial court at a later date.
July 1st, was busy for the Osoyoos RCMP. Twelve people were arrested for various alcohol related offences. Police responded to many mischief, noise complaints and cause of disturbance calls that included fights at the Sage pub.
On July 3rd, 2012, the Osoyoos RCMP arrested and charged a female prolific offender for shoplifting from the Field’s store in Osoyoos. The 55 yr-old, was released to appear in Penticton provincial court at a later date.
On July 4, 2012, members responded to a 911 call where a female victim had been brutally assaulted. The suspect fled the scene and later rolled his vehicle where he died instantly. The victim is currently hospitalized and will require specialized surgery for her injuries.
On July 7th, 2012, police officers conducted a traffic stop in Osoyoos. Shaun Stelkia was found to be in breach of his Recognizance of Bail. Stelkia was arrested and is currently being held for Penticton provincial court at a later date.
