Wednesday’s School District #53 Board meeting heard a report from Facilities Superintendent Mitch Van Aller on progress of the reconstructed SOSS.
Van Aller says he is expecting to see bids in the next week from a number of contractors who did a site visit recently for a $16 million contract to erect a steel framed building (the east wing) that would house the majorority of students starting in the fall of 2013.
Van Aller says the construction phase pictured above should be complete in about two weeks and a generator moved into that basement. At that time a contract will be let to bring down the chimney and remove any and all concrete from the “old” school.
The speed could depend on who gets the contract as one contractor must finish up on a site before a new one can move in. Greyback Construction has done most the work so far.
