On June 17, 2012 @ 16:45 Hours, Oliver RCMP responded to a report of a motor vehicle collision involving a motorcycle and a pick-up truck on Highway 97, near Road 6, just south of Oliver, BC. RCMP attendance confirmed that a 1989 Ford pick-up being driven by an 18 year old Naramata male was headed northbound on Highway 97, being followed by a 2012 Harley Davidson motorcycle being operated by a 43 year old Kelowna male. The driver of the pick-up appears to have been attempting to execute a u-turn to pick up hitchhikers on the opposite side of the highway. It was at this point that the truck and the motorcycle came into contact with each other. The operator of the Harley Davidson, and his 40 year old female passenger were thrown from the bike and both sustained serious but non life threatening injuries. Both injured parties were subsequently air-lifted to Kelowna General Hospital for medical care. There was minimal damage to the pick-up and neither the driver nor the two passengers sustained injuries. Although alcohol and speed are not believed to be contributing factors the matter is being investigated by an accident re-constructionist.
Any witnesses to this crash are invited to contact the Oliver Detachment of the RCMP at (250)498-3422.
