On June 6th, 2012, the Osoyoos RCMP were dispatched to assist Canada Border Services Agency at the Osoyoos Port of Entry. A BC licenced vehicle had run the Chopaka Port of Entry and failed to report as required. Police intercepted the vehicle and identified the occupants who were from France and stated they did not know they had to stop at the border crossing. The vehicle and occupants were searched and the pair were returned to the Port of Entry where they were processed by CBSA.
On June 7th, 2012, RCMP responded to a report of an impaired driver at the Osoyoos Port of Entry. A transport truck driver had driven up to the Port and was detained by CBSA Officers. As a result of an approved screening device test the driver was issued a 24 hour driving suspension and the transport truck was held at the Port for 24 hours. The driver was refused entry into Canada and was turned over to American Customs and Border Protection.
On June 7th, 2012, an Osoyoos RCMP member assisted CBSA at the Osoyoos Port of Entry with a male driver entering Canada who displayed signs of impairment. As a result of the driver registering a warn on an approved screening device he was issued a 3 day immediate roadside prohibition and his vehicle was towed.
During the early morning hours of June 8th, 2012, a Police officer on patrol on Hwy 97 near Graveyard hill found a downed utility pole on the S curves. Although the vehicle had fled the scene, it appeared it had gone off road right losing control and sheering a utility pole in half at the top. As a result, the utility lines free fell and were hanging about 10 ft off the ground low enough that they could have struck large transport trucks. The highway was closed and traffic was rerouted until the lines could be repaired.
On June 8th, 2012, Osoyoos RCMP members conducted a traffic stop of a Nissan Pathfinder for having no front plate and no insurance. Investigation found the driver had been drinking and was required to give a breath sample for an approved screening device which resulted in a Warn reading. The driver was issued a 3 day Immediate Roadside Prohibition.
During the evening of June 9th, Police officers conducting bar walks of Osoyoos Liquor establishments located a male passed out on the patio area of the Owl Pub. The male was removed from the premises and the Pub is under investigation for over service by BC Liquor Branch.
On June 10th, 2012, Police officers observed a vehicle screeching tires going through a stop sign without stopping. Prior to Police being able to stop the vehicle it was observed committing numerous other traffic infractions. Police investigation determined that the 24 year old female Osoyoos resident was impaired by alcohol and has been charged for impaired driving.
On June 10th, 2012 at 11:38 pm, Osoyoos RCMP Officers responded to an urgent call that a female had ran to her neighbours for help after being assaulted by her boyfriend. Police attended to find a 24 year old female from Alberta with a bloody face and what appeared to be a broken nose. The 35 year old boyfriend was located and arrested by the Police and is now facing assault charges.
On June 10th, 2012, a Police Officer on Patrol located a severely intoxicated male vomiting in the Owl Pub parking lot. The male, later identified as a 21 yr old American from Malo, Washington was unable to care for himself and was arrested and held in cells. During the search of the male a knife was located and seized. Once sober the male was released with a Liquor Violation Ticket for being Intoxicated in Public.
