Council has agreed to allow development in the C-5 Downtown area with less restrictions than other areas of the municipality.

Blocks bordered by Veterans Avenue, Fairview Road, Station and Kootenay Streets – roughly – is the area exempted from the requirement of additional parking spaces if redevelopment is to take place on any lot in the zone.

The decision was against the recommendation of staff and management. All redevelopment plans however must receive a permit from council so that at the time of plans being approved – council can step in with recommendations and requirements that could effect the building site based on the number of floors and use of same.
