On Friday June 8th, 2012, Police conducted a joint enforcement operation in and around Osoyoos. Local RCMP members partnered with RCMP Traffic Services and Criminal Interdiction, RCMP Integrated Border Enforcement Team, RCMP Police Dog Service, BC Liquor Inspection Branch, Canada Border Services Agency, CBSA Immigration, and multiple US Agencies including US Border Patrol, US Customs Border Protection, Tonasket PD, Colville Tribal Police, and Oroville PD.
In addition to general enforcement for Impaired Drivers and criminal activity, throughout the evening Police checked on numerous people subject to court ordered conditions such as curfews and no alcohol conditions. Police also attempted to locate local subjects on outstanding arrest warrants. Local Immigration checks were conducted in Osoyoos as well.
In unison with American Law Enforcement partners there was increased enforcement along the Canada / USA Border and at the Osoyoos Port of Entry for cross border smuggling.
BC Liquor Inspectors visited local Establishments to observe compliance with the BC Liquor Act.
As a result of this initiative 2 Impaired Drivers were arrested, 14 Motor Vehicle Act Tickets and 2 Warnings were issued, and a 39 year old female was arrested and held in custody after breaching her no alcohol conditions.
During a Bar Walk, Police located an intoxicated male dozing off in the Owl Pub. After a confrontation between several bar patrons and the Police the 22 year old male from Osoyoos was arrested for being Intoxicated in Public, Refusing to Leave a Licensed Premise, and for Resisting Arrest. A 26 year old female from Osoyoos was also arrested for Being Intoxicated in Public and for trying to kick out windows in a Police Vehicle. Both subjects were held in cells until sober and may face Criminal charges. BC Liquor Inspectors are conducting 2 Liquor Control and Licencing Act investigations as a result of these incidents at the Owl Pub.
