What is distributed learning??
You may be familiar with YouLearn’s store-front sites in Oliver, Osoyoos and Keremeos, where we offer programs for adults looking to upgrade their skills or achieve their Dogwood Diploma. But did you know that we also offer a full range of courses for students from Kindergarten to Grade 12, through our Distributed Learning (DL) program?
DL offers programs for students who choose to take online or self-paced courses, and provides the flexibility to learn at an individual pace. Students do not need to be registered in a local High School in order to sign up. Courses that are popular, and in which students have a high degree of success, include Planning 10; Work Experience 12; German and Spanish 10 and 11; PE 10,11 and 12, and Equine Studies. Many students find our online, self-paced academic courses, such as Math 11, a perfect fit in a busy school schedule.
If you are experiencing timetabling conflicts or can’t find the course options you want, we would love to answer your questions. For students already graduated and 19 or under, you may take any course you wish for free: upgrading, self-interest and/or pre-requisites.
Parents who want to teach their children at home, Grades 8 and 9 students who would like a more self-directed program, or older students who want to take one or more courses to supplement their Grade 10 – 12 high school program, will find DL the place for them. Teaching relies primarily on indirect communication between students and teachers, including internet-based and paper-based courses. Grades 10 – 12 DL students can start their course throughout the calendar year and have up to one school year to complete their work. KG to Grade 9 students complete their courses on the regular school calendar, from September to June.
We are now accepting registrations for our 2012- 13 school year.
For more information, check out our website at YouLearn.ca and look under the DL tab. Registration information and forms can be downloaded from the site. Alternatively, contact our office between 8:30 and 3:30 at 250 498 4597 to arrange to meet one of our staff.
