Today there is a partial eclipse of the sun, the sun will be 70% covered by the moon, the time of maximum eclipse will be 6.15pm, from about 45 minutes before this, the moon will begin take a bite from the solar disc and after 6.15 will decrease. To safely watch this event, a solar viewer or welding screen must be used to aviod eye damage. Free solar viewers like the ones in the picture worn by Cathy and James Hodge over at Apple Beach RV Park can be obtained at the open event at White Lake Radio Observatory this afternoon. Also at the observatory, telescopes will be viewing the sun and you can get a peek.
In the Southwest USA today, there is an Annular Eclipse and we are near to the edge of the moons shadow so just have the partial phase. A full Total Eclipse of the Sun will be visable in Oregon in August 2017, book you holidays now.
