GROWLERS:
The story goes, back in the day when you’d be walking home with your freshly-filled growler, the carbonation would hiss and “growl” out of the cap. Nowadays we have proper seals on the screw-cap lids, so it stays fresh for as long as 2 weeks before the seal is cracked.
Sid Ruhland and friend hoist a Growler or two.
Our beer is hand-crafted in small batches with no shortcuts using traditional ingredients. Why is this better than mass-produced factory lager? Because it tastes better and gives more per dollar.
Since the dawn of civilization, humans have been brewing and drinking beer. It has always been a daily staple, as the barley provides sustenance and the alcohol sterilizes the water (back when water was not always potable). Since the recent industrial revolution and extreme government control over alcohol (past 200 years or so), taxation and regulations have caused the beer market to be controlled by monolithic corporations. They are focused on quantity, not quality, and have flooded the markets for decades with cheap beer that is only an echo of what beer once was. It is over-carbonated and served cold in order to mask the cheap factory flavour.
BUT THERE’S A REVOLUTION AT HAND: the “Craft Beer Revolution.” World-wide, people are getting sick of beer with too much water in it, that must be drank nearly frozen and bubbley to avoid tasting it. Microbreweries are popping up everywhere, including BC, offering beer that tastes good and offers more. Welcome to the Craft Beer Revolution.
