On 2012-04-30 at approximately 23:18 Hours members of the Oliver Fire Department and Oliver RCMP responded to a report of a structure fire located at 6061 Kootenay Ave., in Oliver, BC.
This building is a 13 unit apartment complex and on arrival a significant portion of the south side of the building was fully engulfed. The Oliver Fire Department conducted successful fire suppression over a 5 hour period in order to contain the blaze. All residents of the building are accounted for at this point
The building, as well as the two adjacent buildings were evacuated, displacing a total of approximately 35 residents. Some residents suffered the effects of smoke inhalation but, there were no significant injuries reported.
RDOS Emergency Social Services and Oliver Victim Services are engaged and will be working cooperatively to provide assistance to those that have been effected.
A Provincial Fire Commission investigator and Penticton Forensic Ident Section will attend the scene this a.m. to conduct an on scene investigation. As with all fires of this nature this event will be treated as suspicious until proven otherwise.
The property owners from North Kelowna, have been advised and have attended the scene and confirmed that the building is insured.
