Two meetings yesterday in Oliver – on a new zoning bylaw and the wishes of land owners and residential residents.
Those who own industrially zoned land invited to a meeting by the Town of Oliver – 17 such persons attended with all having a desire that any new zoning bylaw continue to allow present uses.
Residents of the Sawmill Rd. area of the Town attended an evening meeting at the Elks hall with all council members, planners and consultants. About 30 people in attendance.
The wish of the residents is for no ashpalt plants or gravel crushing operations. Councillor Dave Mattes told the audience that provincial law governs the operation of an asphalt plant and that under the present circumstances it would not be allowed.
On the gravel crushing operating – some residents said it was dusty and noisy but others indicated that the concern was overblown.
Council will digest all the information from the two meetings prior to a public hearing later this year.
