Kaleden’s Darin Venne won this race in his 1964 Fargo against Oliver’s Shana Cachola
Spring has finally come to the Okanagan Valley. The daffodils and tulips are in bloom. The fruit trees have their blossoms, along with the promises of this year’s crop. Somehow it just doesn’t feel complete to many Okanagan residents. The final, missing ingredient is drag racing. The time has come to round out spring’s repertoire.
The first WCRA race of the 2012 season is on Sunday May 6, 2012. Five times per year the Osoyoos air strip is transformed, with the hard work of many volunteers and race teams, into Richter Pass Motorplex. The drivers and their teams have been working throughout the winter to improve all of your favourite cars and build new ones for everyone’s enjoyment.
“The first race always proves to be fun, since everyone has spring fever,” states racer and car builder Don Cachola of Oliver.
Time trials begin at 11 a.m. The main elimination event begins at 1 p.m. Gates open at 9 a.m. for drivers and 10 a.m. for general public. Spectators can fill the grand stands or bring their own lawn chairs. Cost at the gate is only $10 per person, with people under 12 admitted free with an adult. Concessions are available on site.
2012 race dates: May 6, May 27, June 10, September 23 and October 7.
