I drove up the McKinney today to find mainly dry conditions (we live in a desert) with crews stabilizing the creeks first before making too much headway with the road reconstruction.
I can best describe the scene with some names that might not make much sense. But Big Cub at the top of the hill has been channelled under the road to the west and is now running on course. Thursday morning the creek was running down hill anyway it wanted including down the Camp McKinney etching out its own culvert taking a lot of pavement with it.
Further down the road at the top of the straight away hill – another Young Cub passes across the road and is running fairly wildly and meets up with the Old Cub on the flat lands – the bigger joint Wolf Cub Creek – that follows a course through the reservation and into Town and to the river.
The situation is much improved. The Town has put the water back into the ditch. All is well. Now maybe some talk about long term solutions to flash flood conditions higher up the McKinney. This is the second year in a row for conditions in Town.
For a desert we sure can get wet on occasion.
