Directors of the RDOS have endorsed three ideas proposed at a meeting Thursday in Penticton.
1. Request the province re-engage the discussion with the Federal Government and continue the process started a number of years ago
2. Request the province to release the finding of a feasibility study done by BC on the National Park idea in the South Okanagan
3. Request that RDOS be involved in the discussions when talks resume.
The majority of directors voted in favour – three voted against the idea and two abstained by removing themselves from the debate chamber.
Four of the five who did not vote in favour are rural directors for “B” Cawston, “G” Keremeos, “A” Osoyoos and “C” Oliver. The last was the Mayor of Keremeos Manfred Bauer.
Mayor Stu Wells of Osoyoos brought the resolutions to the RDOS board and stated that this issue is an important one that deserved the type of debate it got with the questions being debated for at least one hour.
Mayor Wells said he was happy with the result and the quality of debate.
