Wilford Hidlebaugh
December 15, 1916 – April 13, 2012
Wilf was the third son of three brothers and two younger sisters born to Jay and Rachael Hidlebaugh in Redvers, Saskatchewan. He quietly passed away in Oliver hospital. He is survived by Betty, his wife of 69 years, son Murray (Jeanette), of Saskatoon, daughters Janet (Norm) Debienne of Ft. Qu’Appelle, Patricia (Gene) Kessler, of Pangman, Barbara (Phil) Yardy of Los Angeles, his seven grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, his youngest sister, Lola of Saskatoon and sister-in-law, Nene (Art) of Choiceland. He was predeceased by his parents, brothers Mel, Art, Dave and sister Marion. Wilf and his brothers joined the army and went overseas in WWII. He returned to Canada, on compassionate leave, in 1942 and married Elizabeth Leslie of Kelliher, Saskatchewan. They maintained the family farm until the war ended after which they bought their own farm near Choiceland where they reared their family. Wilf and Betty retired to Oliver in 1976 where they had an active life that included: golfing, curling, duplicate bridge, and bike-riding. As one door closed for Wilf, he found others to open. He learned how to use a computer and became involved in the senior citizen’s organization where he taught others how to use all sorts of applications. He got a scooter and rode it almost daily along the canal picking up cans which he donated to charity. In Oliver Wilf and Betty developed a special friendship with the families of Christine and Russell Work and Yvonne and Huia Martin. The Works and Martins shared family events and offered support when needed. We have really appreciated this friendship and cannot thank them enough. Wilf loved his family and was loved by them. It was a life well lived. He will be missed. It is hard to say goodbye. In lieu of flowers, the family would like donations to go to the: Oliver Hike and Bike Trail or the Oliver Seniors Centre.
