An air cadet glider crashed in Oliver – south of the airport into the Paula Tavares-Martins orchard at 9347 Road #1 Sunday morning.
The female pilot, a Penticton teenager was shaken up but not injured. It was to have been her first runway landing. Air cadet officials are investigating and the glider will need to be taken apart before its removal from the treed area south of the airport.

Paula was working in her greenhouse when the plane came down hard. “I was in their for maybe two minutes and I heard this loud, loud bang. Martins left the greenhouse to check and saw the young pilot getting out of the glider.
“I asked her, are you OK, and she said ‘I’m perfectly fine. The landing damaged eight fruit trees, but Paula is just relieved the girl is uninjured.
“As long as the girl was OK, I was fine. Everything is just stuff.”
