Venus is in the evening sky in the west as it goes dark. So if you are wondering what that bright light is, now you know. Presently, Venus is passing through the constellation of Taurus the bull. The āVā arrangement of stars on the left of the picture is the head of the bull. The other group of stars midway between Venus and the tree in this picture is the Pleiades cluster or the seven sisters, keeping a watch on Venus and this group of stars over the next few nights, you can track its motion across the sky. Venus will only be in the evening sky for a short time as it moves in its orbit, in two months from now on June 6, Venus will be directly between Earth and the Sun, but more on that later in the spring.
This photograph is a 30 second exposure, the long exposure results in elongated stars as the Earth rotates on its axis and the stars cross the sky.
Mars is high in the south after dark, a sort of orange colour.
