About 100 grade five children from Oliver and Osoyoos will participate in a drug awareness program sponsored by the RCMP detachment.
Linda Schaffrick, secretary-treasurer of the Oliver Lions Club, presents Const. Keely Baker with a drug safety book for the ongoing D.A.R.E. program. Const. Jon Stermscheg is also one of the D.A.R.E. instuctors. The book is co spnsored by the Oliver Lions and Oliver Lioness Clubs and participating businesses.
The students will learn about harmful drugs such as halucinogens, stimulants, narcotics, depressants, inhalants and steroids. The 144 page book also focuses on the dangers of peer pressure and includes a secton meant to be read specifically with parents and there is also a DVD with the book that the students can watch with their parents.
