Local NDP hopeful Marji Basso points to area of the west range that is part of proposed National Park in the South Okanagan Smilkameen. Basso says process is important. The study by the OIB on this question is very important, she says.
The provincial NDP have not taken a firm stand on the issue but Basso says there should be more dialogue between the Yes and No side – around a table – collecting facts – not just hot rhetoric.
There is is another public meeting in the Okanagan Falls Community Centre April 4th at 7 p.m. The Vancouver-based Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society (CPAWS) is sponsoring this meeting.
She is upset with the decision of the provincial government to back out calling it ‘premature’ and calls for the the findings of an earlier feasibility study to be made public.
Basso told the Penticton Western – “This is very contentious and is definitely going to be an election issue. It’s quite bipolar in this area, there’s not many people who are in the middle, they are either for or against.”
