On March 15th 2012 the Oliver Detachment RCMP received a complaint of a suspicious male that was reported to have been following children after school. The male was described as African-Canadian, 6 ft tall with a slim build. Investigation confirmed both the identity of the male and that he was not a risk to the public. The male advised that he had only been approaching High School students in an attempt to acquire cigarettes. Since Police contact this male has left the area. As a reminder parents should ensure that their children are familiar with stranger contact protocols. The RCMP and local Schools take reports of this nature very seriously.
On Mar 15, 2012 at 4:48 PM, Cody the Oliver RCMP received a report that two males had just been caught spray-painting heavy equipment at the land-slide site near Road 16 on Hwy 97. Two Oliver males, one 26 and one 17, were subsequently identified and the potential for charges is being considered.
On March 18, 2012 at approximately 8:53 PM RCMP responded to a report of an accident on Highway 97 two kilometers north of Oliver. Investigation confirmed that the 28 year old male driver of a Black Toyota Tundra had fallen asleep at the wheel for a couple of seconds and lost control on a curve and hit a utility pole before swerving to miss second pole finally coming to rest in a cherry tree. The driver sustained minor, non life threatening injuries and was issued a violation ticket for driving without due care.
